Approximately Ksh100 million has been set aside for athletes who perform well at the New York City Marathon on Sunday.
The 2023 New York City Marathon has attracted strong men’s and women’s fields and each athlete will be fighting for a top spot and to walk away with the handsome prize money that has been set aside.
Some of the Kenyans headlining the field in the women’s race are Olympic champion Peres Jepchirchir, defending champion Sharon Lokedi, reigning Boston Marathon champion Hellen Obiri, and former world record holder Brigid Kosgei.

The New York City Marathon organisers usually award the top nine athletes to cross the finish line with the winners, both male and female, having the pride of walking away with Ksh15,060,000.
The athletes who finish in second place and third place will pocket Ksh9,036,000 and Ksh6,024,000 respectively. The fourth and fifth-place finishers will also head to the bank smiling since they will be awarded Ksh3,765,000 and Ksh2,259,000 respectively.
