ATHLETICS Samwel Mailu leads Kenyan 1-2-3 sweep as he successfully defends Hamburg 21k title
Mailu, 30, successfully defended his title after putting up a good fight to outsmart his compatriots Edwin Kipruto and Jonathan Korir.
She specialises in the 3000m SC where she is slowly earning a name for herself after being crowned the National Champion at the Athletics Kenya National Championships concluded on Saturday, June 24.
“Yes, she (Brigid) inspires me a lot and gives me the motivation to always work hard. One day, I want to break records like her,” Pamela said.
She cut the tape in 9:35.25 ahead of Caren Chebet who clocked 9:35.68. Fancy Cherono finished third in 9:36.99. She revealed competing with the seniors for the second time was not an easy encounter but she expressed excitement towards winning the highly contested race.
The first time she competed with the seniors was during the Kip Keino Classic in May where she fizzled out to finish 12th.
The youngster has her eyes set on the National trials for the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary where she hopes to leave a mark.
“Competing with the seniors wasn’t easy…it was so tough but I’m glad to have won and improved my time. My next target is to finish among the top three and go for the World Championships,” she said.

ATHLETICS Shock as Brigid Kosgei withdraws from London Marathon a few minutes into the race
During last year's edition of the event, Kosgei also had to withdraw from the race due to a knee injury.
She will be vying for a ticket to the World Championships against other strong athletes including world record holder Beatrice Chepkoech and Commonwealth Games champion Jackline Chepkoech but she is hopeful of making the cut. Pamela said she will train hard and work on her speed as she seeks to compete against the bigwigs.
“They have the experience that I lack but I believe in myself. I want to go and train hard and make sure I do well…I just need to improve on my speed and some hill work,” she said.
