Star Girl Favour Ofili missed out on winning a medal in the 200m final, succumbing to the supremacy of USA's Gabby Thomas, who won her first individual Olympic gold medal.

In a brilliant final that witnessed some of the world's best sprinters, Favour Ofili narrowly missed out on a podium placement at Paris 2024 Olympics as United States Gabby Thomas blazed to her first Olympic 200m title.

Ofili gave her best on the night from lane 9, one of the most challenging lanes to run, having a good start as she stormed round the bend with the field on the home straight.

However, the strength and speed endurance of Thomas was unmatchable, storming to the finish line in an impressive time of 21.82s.

Newly crowned Olympic 100m champion Julien Alfred won her second medal in Paris with an astounding finish for the silver medal in 22.08s, while USA's Brittany Brown gave her all to finish third in 22.20s.

Great Britain's Dina Asher-Smith was fourth in 22.20s, ahead of her countrywoman Daryll Neita in 22.22s, edging Ofili who settled for the sixth position in 22.24s.

Despite the loss, Ofili can take solace in the fact that she became the first Nigerian to make an Olympic 200m final in 28 years and she did that in her maiden Olympic appearance.

With her brilliant outing in Paris, it's safe to say it's just the beginning of her journey to greatness and being a consistent elite world-beater for many years.
