Paris 2024: Kenya's Omanyala blitzes to victory as Nigeria's Ajayi stuns with 100m Heat Win

African representatives in the Paris 2024 Olympics are looking good for glory in the sprints after Kenya's Omanyala and Nigeria's Ajayi secured spots in the 100m semis.

Kenya's Ferdinand Omanyala continued his blistering form, comfortably winning Heat 2 of the men's 100m event at the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympics.

Africa's fastest man Omanyala crossed the line in 10.08 seconds, easily outpacing his rivals. Italy's Chituru Ali finished second in 10.12 seconds, while Germany's Joshua Hartmann took the final automatic spot with a time of 10.16 seconds.

Ajayi Makes a Statement, Defeats Olympic Champion Jacobs

In a stunning display, Nigeria's Kanyinsola Ajayi emerged victorious in Heat 5 of the men's 100m, clocking a time of 10.02 seconds (-0.3) to secure his place in the semifinals.

Ajayi's impressive performance saw him defeat the reigning Olympic champion, Italy's Lamont Marcell Jacobs, who finished second in 10.05 seconds. Ghana's Abdul-Rasheed Saminu took third place in 10.06 seconds.

Thompson Sizzles in Heat 1 Win

Earlier in the day, Jamaica's Kishane Thompson, the fastest man in the world this year, showcased his dominance by winning Heat 1 of the men's 100m. Despite easing up towards the end, Thompson still managed to clock a time of 10.00 seconds.

Ghana's Benjamin Azamati qualified for the semifinals with a time of 10.08 seconds, while Cuba's Reynaldo Espinosa finished third in 10.11 seconds.

In a disappointing turn of events, Great Britain's Jeremiah Azu was disqualified for a false start in the race.
