Wycliffe Kinyamal has disclosed his next move, citing the key take aways from the Olympic stage, following a semifinal knockout from the men's 800m final at the Paris Olympics.

Wycliffe Kinyamal bowed out of the Paris Olympics after finishing third in the men’s 800m hotly contested semifinal race.

He was off to a great start in the first round, settling for third place before faltering in the semifinal to finish third and miss out on a slot in the final where only the top two automatically qualify. The Commonwealth Games champion noted that he took time running with the group and struggled to make a way out for himself when it mattered.

With about 100m to go, that is when Kinyamal got a chance to leave the group of runners but it was already late since other opponents had already gone.

“I tried my best but the time I wanted to get myself out of the crowd there was no way out and with about 100m to go, I got a chance to leave the crowd,” Kinyamal said after the race.

He now returns home full of gratitude since there were many things he admitted to have learnt. The Maasai maverick was surprised at how global championships work strictly according to the rules given.

As he eyes a slot at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan, Kinyamal will be out to implement all the key take-outs from the Olympic Games.

Meanwhile, Kinyamal also lauded Emmanuel Wanyonyi for being the sole Kenyan to make the final. He urged the youngster to put in the work and earn Kenya a medal in the 800m race.

“I’m now going back to the drawing board because there are certain things I have learnt from this championship and I want to try my best and see how things will be,” Kinyamal said.

“First of all, this is a major championship and I know that the races on such a global stage are very tight and there are many restrictions to be followed.

“Wanyonyi is my best friend and I want him to go out there and try his best and win us a medal. I got to the semis and I thank God for that and I pray that he gets us a medal.”
