Double Olympics champion Faith Kipyegon opted for a slow race as she qualified for the 1,500m semi-final with compatriots Susan Ejore and Nelly Chepchirchir also sealing a ticket.
Faith Kipyegon kept a live her dreams of winning a third Olympics gold medal in 1,500m after making to the semi-final on Tuesday.
Fresh from her roller-coaster of emotions on Monday when she won silver in 5,000m, got disqualified over obstruction and jostling, before her reinstatement following an appeal, Kipyegon did not want such drama again and opted to run on the outer lane.
She did not show her claws in the race and reduced her pace, allowing others to get ahead of her as she finished fourth for a place in the semis.
Kipyegon clocked 4:00.74 with Ethiopian Diribe Welteji (3:59.73) winning ahead of Georgia Bell of Great Britain (4:00.29) and American Nikki Hiltz (4:00.42) in second and third positions respectively.
In the opening heat, Susan Ejore also made it to the semi-final after finishing third behind Ethiopian Gudaf Tsegay and Laura Muir of Great Britain.
Ejore stayed close to the leading pack and had a good acceleration in the final lap to claim a third place in a time of 3:59.01 as Tsegay clocked 3:58.84 for the win followed by Muir in 3:58.91.
Nelly Chepchirchir ensured Kenya will have its complete set in the semis when she won the third heat to qualify.
Chepchirchir had been boxed into the inner lane on the final bend but found some space to sprint forward to win the third heat in 4:02.67.
