American track and field sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson has opted for another race to start her season, bypassing the Miramar Invitational as she continues preparations for the Paris Olympics.

World 100m champion Sha'Carri Richardson has set her sights on the upcoming Xiamen Diamond League in China after withdrawing from the Miramar Invitational.

Richardson, who was expected to kickstart her season at the Miramar event on Saturday 6 April, has opted to open her season on Saturday 20 April in the 200m event at the Xiamen Diamond League.

In a recent Instagram post, Richardson elucidated the rationale behind her decision, affirming her readiness to return to the Diamond League circuit.

"Back on the diamond league circuit April 20🔥❤️‍🔥(@xiamendiamondleague)," she declared, signaling her eagerness to resume competitive action.

Richardson's participation in the 200m event at Xiamen will see her face off against formidable competitors including training partner Twanisha Terry, Bahamian sprint star Athonique Strachan, and a host of US rivals such as Tamara Clark, Kayla White, Anavia Battle, and Caisja Chandler.

Additionally, former world 60m champion Kambudji Mujinga and Shanti Veronica Pereira will add to the intensity of the competition.

The 24-year-old sprinter made waves last year with a stunning performance at the Diamond League in Doha, where she clocked an impressive 10.76s to signal her remarkable comeback.

Her stellar 2023 season culminated in clinching the world title in Budapest solidifying her status as the fastest woman in the world and a leading contender for Olympic glory.

By opting to compete in the 200m event in Xiamen, Richardson aims to further hone her skills in the discipline and position herself as a formidable challenger for both the 100m and 200m titles in Paris, alongside her Jamaican rivals Shericka Jackson and Elaine Thompson-Herah.

The Xiamen Diamond League holds significance as preparations gear up for the return of the Olympic Games in Paris, France.

Richardson's absence from the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics due to a ban left a void making her comeback all the more anticipated.
