American sprint queen Sha'Carri Richardson has opened up on the story behind her signature pose before starting a race.

Before starting a race, world champion Sha’Carri Richardson is usually seen making a sign where she kisses her hand and looks up in the sky and she has explained that it is usually to showcase her faith in God before starting a race.

The American sprint queen explained that she makes that sign to spread the love that God has given to her and also show that she believes in herself and knows that God has held her hand. She added that making the sign allows her to receive all the love and glory from God.

“Oh no, that is to God…to my faith, that is to God, that is to the belief that I have to have in myself first and the blessing that I know I’ve been given, to give back to the world and to be that vessel to shine and to allow His glory and love to reign through me,” Richardson said in an interview.

Richardson opened her season at the Diamond League Meeting in Xiamen, finishing second behind Australia’s 19-year-old Torrie Lewis in the women’s 200m. She then proceeded to the Diamond League Meeting in Suzhou, finishing third in the race won by Great Britain’s Daryll Neita.

She announced her comeback, showcasing her great form going up against a formidable field at the Prefontaine Classic, the Diamond League Meeting in Eugene. She won the race with Julien Alfred finishing second and Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith completing the podium.

The 24-year-old now continues training hard ahead of the Olympic trials as she seeks to make a swift comeback at this year’s Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

She disclosed that her training is going on well and she is growing and learning new things each day, something she doesn’t take for granted.

“Honestly, just from being here last year and coming back, the journey of exploring myself, learning myself, falling into deeper love with myself, falling in love with the process, and giving myself that love first and everything else that I’ve put myself into feels really good.

“I’m excited, eager going into the rest of the season, growing, developing and getting ready to make that USA team. We are just continuing to do what we have been doing since we have been preparing for the trials since November last year.

“We have been preparing and we continue to keep that focus, keep that love, and maintain that positive mindset of knowing that my growth is going into the trials and develop even more going into the Olympics,” she said.
