Richardson was among the nominees but unfortunately missed out on the final list as her votes were not enough.

Reigning World 100m champion Sha’Carri Richardson has congratulated the five finalists of the World Athletics Awards Women’s World Athlete of the Year slated for Monday 11 December.

Richardson was among the nominees but unfortunately missed out on the final list as her votes were not enough.

In a post on her Instagram stories, she said: “Congratulations to the beautiful ladies on being finalists for female World Athlete of the Year.”

The five women who have made it to the final list include Faith Kipyegon, Shericka Jackson, Tigst Assefa, Yulimar Rojas, and Femke Bol.

Kipyegon made it to the list courtesy of her record-breaking spree that saw her set the 1500m, 5000m, and one-mile world records. She is also the reigning World 1500m and 5000m champion while Rojas is the World and Diamond League champion over the triple jump.

Assefa won the Berlin Marathon and set a new world record time at the event. On her part, Bol is the reigning World 400m hurdles champion and she also holds the World indoor 400m record.

Jackson is the reigning World 200m champion and 100m silver medallist and also the Diamond League 100m and 200m champion.

Meanwhile, Richardson had also made it to the initial list courtesy of her dominant exploits at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. She won the women’s 100m and propelled her 4x100m relay team to victory. She also won a bronze medal in the 200m race.

Richardson also ended the season as the fastest in the 100m, when she clocked 10.65 to win the race in Budapest.
