Before the Olympics, Richardson was in great shape, winning the women’s 100m at the Prefontaine Classic before dominating the U.S. Olympic trials. She won the women’s 100m final in a world-leading time of 10.71 seconds to cross the finish line ahead of Melissa Jefferson and Twanisha Terry.
At the Olympics, she was off to a great start, winning the heats of the women’s 100m before faltering in the final and semifinal of the race. However, she bounced back in the women’s 4x100m relay race as she anchored Team USA to a gold medal.
On her part, Alfred will seek to extend her winning streak from the Olympic Games. She has yet to race after winning gold in the women’s 100m and silver in the 200m at the Olympics.
Alfred started her season with a gold medal at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow before clashing against Richardson at the Prefontaine Classic. She proceeded to win the Racers Grand Prix in Jamaica and claimed the 200m title at the Gyulai István Memorial, a Hungarian Athletics Grand Prix.
