Kenya’s Sharon Lokedi has revealed the special shoes she will be wearing during Monday’s Boston Marathon which she hopes to use to silence Hellen Obiri and co.
Sharon Lokedi, the 2022 New York Marathon champion, is counting on her ‘super shoes’ to deliver victory at the Boston Marathon on Monday.
Lokedi missed last year’s Boston Marathon due to an injury but returned to New York in a bid to defend her title, managing a third-place finish behind compatriot Hellen Obiri and Ethiopia’s Letesenbet Gidey.
With Obiri also the defending champion in Boston, Lokedi knows she is up against a formidable cast with Ethiopians Tadu Teshome (2:17:36) and Hiwot Gebremaryam (2:17:59), who have the fastest personal bests, veteran Edna Kiplagat, 2015 Boston champion Caroline Rotich among those set to give her a run for her money.

Hellen Obiri in her best shape ever ahead of title defense at the Boston Marathon
Hellen Obiri is bubbling with confidence ahead of the Boston Marathon and feels like she is in her best marathon running shape ever.
However, the 30-year-old Kenyan is looking forward to donning the Under Armour’s newest carbon-plated model, the Velociti Elite 2.
“It has the soft foam I like, and they make me feel fast,” Lokedi told Canadian Running Magazine regarding the shoes.
As per Runners World, the Velociti Elite is marketed specifically at chasing marathon personal bests, with a full-length carbon plate, and a dual-density midsole, with a cushioned Pebax (the gold standard of foams) layer on top of the plate, and Under Armour’s proprietary supercritical Flow foam underneath.

Boston has always been a tough course for runners down the years and Lokedi understands how difficult it will be on the hilly point-to-point course even while donning super shoes.
“Boston is a different animal, but I’m always excited for a challenge,” she added.
Lokedi also has her eyes on the Paris Olympics having made Team Kenya’s six-women list of those heading to the French capital.

Evans Chebet still hopeful of making marathon team ahead of Paris 2024 Olympics
Two-time Boston Marathon champion Evans Chebet hopes to be selected in the final squad of the men's marathon ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics despite not making it to the Athletics Kenya squad that was handed over to the National Olympic Committee of Kenya.
With only three guaranteed an Olympics slot, Lokedi knows a good performance is paramount in Boston to put her in a great position to gain selection come the May 31 marathon team deadline.
“I want to run to the best of my abilities and show what sort of shape I am in. I am really excited to be feeling healthy [this time around] in Boston and rested,” said Lokedi, whose personal best is 2:23:23.
Besides Obiri, defending champion Peres Jepchirchir, former world record holder Brigid Kosgei, Rosemary Wanjiru, and former world champion Ruth Chepng’etich are the other runners who joined Lokedi on the shortlist for the Olympics team.
