Shawn Barber: Canadian former world champion dies at 29

Canadian Shawn Barber passed on at age 29. He was a former world champion and NCAA champion.

Former world pole vault champion Shawn Barber has passed on after reportedly suffering medical complications.

The 29-year-old Canadian is reported to have been having health issues, which led to some complications before he finally gave up the ghost.

Barber became the 2015 world champion in the Pole Vault event after clearing the height of 5.90m at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing.

He also became a Pan American Games champion by winning the 2015 edition of the Games with 5.80m and won a bronze medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow as a 20-year-old.

Before his death, Barber was the Canadian National Record holder with an outdoor Personal Best (PB) of 5.93m set in 2015 and an indoor PB of 6.00m set in 2016, thus making him one of the best in history to compete in the event.  

In addition, he is tied as the Pan Am record holder with Lázaro Borges and holds the NCAA Collegiate Indoor Record at 5.91m.
