Sifan Hassan has recorded her status as a sporting icon by winning the last gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The Dutch runner completed a remarkable treble after winning gold in the women's marathon, having previously won bronze medals in the 5,000m and 10,000m events.

The 31-year-old's extraordinary achievement of medaling in all three long-distance events at a single Olympics was a big record for her.

“I feel like I am dreaming. At the end, I thought, ‘This is just a 100m sprint. Come on, Sifan. One more. Just feel it, like someone who sprints 200m,” Hassan said per Mirror.

Hassan chose to wear a hijab during the medal ceremony, which gathered praise and admiration from people.

The display resonated with many fans, after the controversy that saw France ban its athletes from wearing the head covering at the Olympics.

Recall that French Sports Minister Amelie Oudea-Castera banned athletes representing France at the Paris Games from wearing the hijab last year September.
