The world of Sports and Fashion is ever evolving and so are sportswomen growing around it. Here's how Olympian Gabby Thomas and WNBA star Angel Reese have grown and are learning to bridge the gap between both field's.

In sporting world, female athletes are steadily improving in bridging the gap between sports and fashion, one which Gabby Thomas and Angel Reese are rapidly learning in taking their individual brands to exquisite levels.

The sporting queens opened up about combining these fields after being featured as Cover Stars for 2025 Vogue winter issue. Speaking with Maya Singer, they gave detailed references about how sports and fashion fell in love.

“I’ve been so in athlete-world, I feel like I’m just starting to get a sense of what I like,” said Thomas. “Not that I don’t have my own style. I do, but then I put on something like that white Carolina Herrera dress that I wore to the show, and it’s like, Oh, oh-kaay. Since then I’ve been doing more ‘pretty’ looks. And more polished. Same with the hair and makeup, I’m growing with that too.”

Thomas' fame as a sprinter had a meteoric boost following her iconic performance at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where she claimed three gold medals (200m, 4x100m, and 4x400m).

Since then, the smart and charismatic track star has been having some well-deserved fun in the interval between the hard work she put in to earn her fame as a sprinter and the hard work to come in the medical field (She studied neurobiology and global health at Harvard and has a master’s degree in epidemiology).

“I feel like we got to represent the best of America,” said Thomas, reflecting on her Olympics experience. “Focused on what brings us together—our dedication, our resilience, our passion for what we do. I felt pride, pride for my country.”

Interestingly, fashion is one of the things she’s enjoying right now. She has taken fashion shows and basketball games, done some modeling, and presented the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award last year.

For Reese, sports and fashion have always been a thing from the get-go. “It’s always been both: basketball and fashion,” said the Chicago Sky power forward who is arguably the most famous star in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) and women's world basketball.

"Basketball runs in the family," she continued; both her mother and grandmother played. And when she was growing up in Baltimore, the sport was just around.

“But I was a fashion girlie from young too. Like—let me find this picture my mom sent,” she goes on, digging through her bag for a snapshot of herself, age five, adorable in a pink dress and tiara, almond eyes gleaming. “I was always in my mom’s closet, putting on her stuff. I liked to carry a purse. Hair done. I wanted to look put together. I still do.”

Her desire to look finished applies on and off the court, earning her 'Bayou Barbie' nickname during her college years at Louisiana State University, thanks to her penchant for glamming up for games.

Reading their stories, it's imminent that Reese and Thomas' are excelling in bridging the gap between Sports and Fashion, which can provide the bigger picture for other female athletes to start believing that more can be achieved as sportswomen.
