Mark Otieno has opened up on the crucial lessons during the two years he was out due to a doping offense.

Sprinter Mark Otieno has opened up on the crucial lessons he learnt during the period he served his doping ban.

Otieno tested positive for the banned anabolic steroid methasterone and was suspended from the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games moments before he was due to compete in the 100m heats.

During the time he served his doping ban, Otieno appreciated the fact that people were able to walk with him and help him bounce back better.

“I’ve learned that you need a community…you know when you are outside in terms of a doping case. Of course, you need to have people walking with you even if it was intentional or unintentional. I really love how many people have shown me love and respect,” Otieno said.

The former national champion made his comeback to the track last year where he competed in one international race in Italy, finishing second in the final of the race.

This season has started off with tons of blessings for him after he welcomed his son earlier last month.

Otieno then opened his track season at the third Athletics Kenya weekend meet, winning his respective heat in the 100m race. However, he did not compete in the semifinal and the final of the race.

“I’m back to have fun and enjoy the process…that’s the main goal,” Otieno said.
