ATHLETICS Blow as Eldoret City Marathon postponed for third time
The Uasin Gishu County Government had confirmed to fully support the Eldoret City Marathon organisers but they unfortunately withdrew leaving the organisers in jeopardy.
He has come out to share some of the key lessons he learnt from the Berlin Marathon. During the post-race conference, Kipchoge poured his heart out and shared what the 49th edition of the Berlin Marathon taught him.
“The lesson I learnt is that your plan may not go the way you wanted but that’s the sport, you need to accept and move on.
The beauty of sport is that in order for you to enjoy it, you have to accept the outcome and move on.
We had a good plan with the whole team and I’m glad that the win came in, the eighth-fastest time came in and I made history. It’s three things in one and I believe this is progress,” Kipchoge said.
Kipchoge clocked 2:02:42, the eighth-fastest time in history to win the marathon. Debutant Vincent Kipkemoi finished second in a time of 2:03:13 as Ethiopia’s Tadese Takele completed the podium in a time of 2:03:24.
The four-time London Marathon champion added that running is no longer an individual event and it takes a team effort to do well. He lauded the pacemakers for their incredible support that propelled him to clinch the title.
“When you are two it’s better…in our NN Running community, we treat running as a team activity. That’s why we want to bring people to think together and work together,” he said.
