Kenyans will be heading to the 2024 World Cross-country Championships in Belgrade, Serbia hoping to win medals but also pocket the prize money set aside for top finishers.
Defending World Cross-country champion Beatrice Chebet returns to one of her favourite running courses with the hope of impressing and she will be joined by a formidable team including 10km world record holder Agnes Ngetich and Sirikwa Classic Cross-country champion Emmaculate Anyango.

The men’s race will see Sabastian Sawe, the reigning World Half Marathon champion take on stiff opposition from Ethiopia. He will enjoy the company of Nicholas Kimeli and Ishmael Kipkurui among other runners who will be looking to finish among the top six.

As per World Athletics, the winners of the race, both in the men’s and women’s senior categories will walk away with $30,000 (Ksh3.9 million). The second and third-place finishers will pocket Ksh1.9 million and Ksh1.3 million respectively.

ATHLETICS Kelvin Kiptum inducted into Talanta Hall of Fame as family receives Ksh 10 million from government
Fallen marathon king Kelvin Kiptum has been honoured yet again by the government after being inducted into the Talanta Hall of Fame on Wednesday morning.
The athletes who finish fourth will bag Ksh927,500 while the fifth and sixth-place finishers will bag Ksh662,500 and Ksh397,500 respectively.
In the mixed relay, the first team to cross the finish line will walk away with Ksh1.5 million while those who finish second and third will bag Ksh1 million and Ksh795,000 respectively. The athletes who finish fourth will pocket Ksh530,000.

Athletics Kenya is in a dilemma ahead of the World Cross-country Championships since top athletes are yet to report to the training camp that started on Sunday and are yet to communicate.
The team that finishes first with the highest number of medals will walk away with Ksh2.6 million while the second, third, and fourth-place finishers will bag Ksh2.1 million, Ksh1.5 million, and Ksh1.3 million. The team to finish fifth and sixth will be awarded Ksh 1 million and Ksh530,000 respectively.
