Alexis Ohanian, the husband to tennis great Serena Williams, has revealed how many fans attended the sold-out Athlos women’s-only tract event which has been lauded as a major success.
Alexis Ohanian, the brains behind the women’s-only track event Athlos NYC, has shared his thoughts on the highly successful athletics meet.
Ohanian revealed that over 5,000 fans attended the event in New York which shows that there is great appetite for the track events unlike what has been said of the sport.
The Reddit founder said the aim was not just to give a higher prize money but rather make all the 36 women who attended special, something he feels the event realized.

Mary Moraa reacts to second-place finish at Alexis Ohanian's Athlos NYC event
Mary Moraa has reacted to her second-place finish in the 800m at the Athlos NYC event while congratulating winner Tsige Duguma.
“These women of track are who we thought they were, stars, and maybe it took a few outsiders to show up, give them the stage and prize money and platform,” Ohanian told Real Talk with Tee.
“But these fans here, we sold out 5,000 plus, on their feet vibing, I mean this set a high bar. We said all 36 of women need to feel like this is the best track meet of their lives. Ask them, that is our goal.
“If we do right by those athletes, everything else takes care of itself and I feel just so blessed and its awesome to see.”
The meeting had Olympics champions Faith Kipyegon (1,500m), Jasmine Camacho-Quinn (100m hurdles) and Marileidy Paulino (400m) among the winners as well as Tsige Duguma (800m), Brittany Brown (100m and 200m) and Marie-Josee Ta Lou-Smith (100m).
Each winner pocketed $60,000 in prize money, one of the highest in a track meet, and there is more in store for all participants as 10 per cent of proceeds from the event will be shared amongst them.
"Let's keep pushing this further... I want to make Athlos one of the best New York sporting events of the year. Period,” Ohanian said in a separate interview.
