Tobi Amusan Inspires Young Athletes in 2nd Edition of Ijebu Sprints/Relays

The world record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, and former Nigerian sprinter Abiola Onakoya have inspired young athletes.

The world record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, and former Nigerian sprinter Abiola Onakoya have inspired young athletes.

The duo organized the Tobi/Abiola Sprint and Relays Meet in Ogun State, where no fewer than 468 athletes participated.

The 2023 edition was held at the Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu-Ode between November 3–4, 2023.

Tobi Amusan Inspires Students from 34 secondary schools

The second edition was attended by 34 secondary schools from the federal capital region of Abuja, Lagos State, Ogun, Oyo, and Ondo. 25 clubs from all across the country participated in the open categories of the 100m and 400m.

Eight tertiary institutions in Ogun State participated in both the open events and the relays.

A total of 468 athletes across all the categories participated in the second edition, with 762 event entries.

Running spike shoes were given to all the finalist in the secondary school 4×100m and 4×400m relays in both the girls and boys categories which amounted to over 100 running spike shoes.

Tobi Amusan revealed that she is happy to give back to the community.

She said, "The second edition is better because we have learn from the first edition, i am happy to be able to give to my community is something i am happy with it and not just that have much but i started from here."

Cash prizes where given to the top three winners in the open categories of the 100m and 400m and also other prizes were given to the top tertiary institutions in both the 4×100m and 4×400m relays for the institutions.
