Tobi Amusan Career
From an early age, Tobi Amusan looked set for superstardom in world athletics.
Tobi Amusan has been described as one of the greatest hurdle sprinters of her generation,
She was the 200 metres silver medallist at the 2013 African Youth Championships held in Warri.
The following year, she took her first major medal in the 100 metres hurdles, which was also silver, at the African Youth Games.
She then claimed gold in the event at the 2015 African Junior Athletics Championships in Addis Ababa.
Also in 2015, while making her All-Africa Games debut as an eighteen-year-old, she won the gold medal in the 100 m hurdles.
In 2016, as a freshman in the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), Amusan became the second athlete for the university to be named C-USA Female Track Athlete of the Year since UTEP joined C-USA.
Amusan was the gold medallist in both the 100 m hurdles and the 200 m. She also claimed a silver in the long jump at the C-USA Championships.
In her first outdoor race of 2017, she ran a then-lifetime best and UTEP record of 12.63 s in the 100 m hurdles.
Tobi Amusan was the C-USA champion in her specialist event and also the runner up in the 200 m. At the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Championships, there was a reversal of finishes in the 100 m hurdles.
Amusan claimed the title ahead of favourite, Camacho-Quinn, who was the previous year's champion.
She did this in a personal record time of 12.57 s and went on to represent Nigeria at the World Championships in London later in the year.
In August 2019, the 22-year-old successfully defended her African Games title.

2022 was unarguably Amusan’s break out year in world athletics.
In June 2022, Amusan defended her 100 m hurdles title at the African Championships in Mauritius with a time of 12.57 s. She also competed in the women's 4 × 100 m relay to earn a second gold medal.

In the semi-final, Amusan set a new world record of 12.12 seconds, breaking the previous best of 12.20 s set by American Kendra Harrison in 2016 and becoming the first Nigeria's world record holder in an athletics event.
It was the largest improvement for a world record in the 100 m hurdles in 42 years.
Amusan later bested her time once again in the final, running 12.06 s, becoming the first Nigeria's world champion at the World Athletics Championship.

In July 2023, reports emerged that Tobi Amusan was provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for allegedly missing three tests within a calendar year.
Although Tobi Amusan maintained her innocence, insisting that she is a clean athlete, she had to wait on the verdict of a Tribunal that was set up to look into the matter.
The 27-year-old breathed a huge sigh of relief after the tribunal cleared her of all anti-doping violations in August.
In a press release by the AIU, it was stated that it took a majority decision by the Disciplinary Tribunal to clear Tobi Amusan of any wrongdoing.
“A panel of the Disciplinary Tribunal, by majority decision, has today found that Tobi Amusan has not committed an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) of three Whereabouts Failures within a 12-month period.” a statement read.
And in June 2024, Tobi Amusan was cleared of any anti-doping rule violations by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
CAS dismissed the appeals filed by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) and WADA, confirming the decision made by the World Athletics Disciplinary Tribunal in August 2023 that Amusan did not commit any anti-doping offences.
In the verdict, CAS panel unanimously concluded that while Amusan had committed two filing failures, they did not find evidence to support the alleged third whereabouts failure that would have resulted in a two-year ban
Accordingly, the Challenged Decision in which the WADT considered that Tobi Amusan did not violate Rule 2.4 of the WA Anti-Doping Rules (WA ADR) and that no period of ineligibility should be imposed on the Athlete is confirmed,' the CAS statement read.
