World Record holder Tobi Amusan was named as a Hall of Famer, becoming the youngest female track athlete to receive the award in UTEP's history.
Nigeria's hurdling queen Tobi Amusan has been inducted into the University of El Paso (UTEP) Hall of Fame Class of 2024 for her record-breaking contribution to athletics.
The talented hurdler had an outstanding resume while a student at UTEP, before going on to have a successful professional and international career, highlighted by becoming the 2022 World 100mH Champion and World Record holder, a three-time Diamond League champion, in addition to being undefeated at the continental level since 2015.
As a student-athlete for UTEP in her two seasons (2016 and 2017), Amusan finished runner-up in the women's 100mH in her first year, became the NCAA champion in her second, before forgoing her scholarship to turn professional for Adidas.
In addition, during her college stay, she was a three-time All-American, a five-time Conference USA champion and holds the school record in the 60m hurdles indoors (7.98s) and the 100-meter hurdles outdoors (12.57s).
With her recent honour as a Hall of Famer for UTEP, she becomes the youngest-ever female athlete from the school to achieve such a feat, and the third Nigerian track athlete to be inducted by the school after Olapade Adeniken who competed as a Miner from 1989 to 1992 and Blessing Okagbare who was at UTEP between 2007 and 2010.
Amusan has two degrees from the institution despite her busy schedule and will be gunning to bounce back to her best form next season, in a quest to reclaim her throne at the world championships in Tokyo.
