The US sprinter was not impressed by his 100m race despite claiming victory ahead of Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala and Jamaica’s Ackeem Blake in Poland on Sunday.
American sprinter Fred Kerley has ruffled feathers by claiming the 100m race, which he won at the Silesia Diamond League on Sunday, was a “trash race.”
Kerley clocked 9.87 to win ahead of Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala, who finished second in 9.88, and Ackeem Blake of Jamaica, whose personal best of 9.89 yielded third place, while Italian former Olympics champion Marcell Jacobs, clocked 9.93 for fourth place.
The Olympics bronze medallist, however, seemed not impressed by his performance and gave negative reactions post-race.
“Trash race but on to Rome,” Kerley started by posting on X before revealing much more in a post-race interview.
"I know the race was shi**y as hell. I just ran and not being technically sound, but I know I'm about to get an earful once I get to my phone,” he said.
The race attracted some of the world’s top sprinters although Olympic silver medallist Kishane Thompson, who was initially set to feature did not start for some unclear reasons.
The field was therefore left open for the rest with Omanyala pushing Kerley to the very end as he continues his impressive post-Olympics form.
Kerley also got one over Jacobs as he improved his record against the Italian to 3-1 which will also act as a confidence booster before his next race in Rome, where the latter will be the crowd favourite as it is his home meeting.
