Udodi Onwuzurike claimed the NCAA 200m title, breaking an 84-year jinx for Stanford University.
Udodi Onwuzurike is Stanford University's first 200m champion in eighty-four years, after bolting to a fast 19.84s to win the NCAA title in Austin, thereby upgrading from his bronze medal last year.
The sophomore student lived up to expectations with the famous victory, having blazed to a Personal Best (PB) and the fastest qualifying time of 19.76s in the semifinals - the third fastest in collegiate history behind Walter Dix (19.69s) and Divine Oduduru (19.73s).
Onwuzurike ran his race to perfection with a very good start and curve run. Then going into the lead on the home straight, he held on to cross the finish line.
In second place was Texas Tech's newly crowned NCAA 100m Champion, Courtney Lindsey in a PB of 19.86s, while Terrence Jones finished third also in a PB of 19.87s.
Onwuzurike has now gone sub-20s three times this season - the fastest by a collegiate athlete. His times of 19.91s, 19.73s, and 19.78s are also the best sequence by a Nigerian 200m runner in history.
