With ten amazing World Records, Armand Duplantis is in the rare league of the GOAT's of athletics - one which Usain Bolt equally occupies the list.

Armand Duplantis is a special athlete who belongs in the rare league of 'generational talents', having set 10 consecutive world records from 2020 to date and is now regarded as the Usain Bolt of Pole Vaulting.

His recent world record came at the Silesia Diamond League, where he erased his Paris Olympics winning mark of 6.25m with a new height of 6.26m as respective Olympic silver and bronze medallists, Sam Kendricks and Emmanouil Karalis both cleared 6.00m – a season’s best for the first and a national record for the latter - making it the first time in history three men scaled over that height at the same meet.

Duplantis' supremacy in the pole vault is so overwhelming that he has forgotten how to lose. He mostly breaks the world record in every meet he competes in, and he has now sealed his status as the GOAT in the event.

At just 24, the exceptional athlete is just touching the peak of his career and only time will tell what the world record would be when he retires. But before then, here are 9 fascinating things about the super-talented Duplantis.

Armand Duplantis

1 - Nationality

Armand Duplantis was born in America, specifically in Lafayette, Louisiana, to Swedish parents. However, he represents Sweden internationally.

2 - Early life

Duplantis came from a sporting background, as his father Greg Duplantis was a pole vaulter, and his mother Helena Duplantis (née Hedlund) was a long jumper and pentathlete.

He started pole vaulting at age three and had already begun setting age-grade records at age seven.

3 - Family legacy in sports

His two older brothers Andreas and Antoine, and his younger sister Johanna, were introduced to sports at a young age by their parents.

His brothers have also made a name for themselves in sports: Andreas Duplantis, his older brother, is also a pole vaulter, representing Sweden at the 2009 World Youth Championships and 2012 World Junior Championships.

While Antoine Duplantis, his other older brother, initially pole vaulted but switched to baseball in high school. He attended Louisiana State University, where he excelled in baseball, becoming the team's all-time leader in hits in 2019.

4 - Coach

Armand Duplantis is coached by his parents Greg and Helena. In an interview with the World Athletics, his mum explained that she differs from her husband Greg – who she works alongside in coaching their son, Mondo – in the sense that: “I see so much, I know his body language and facial expression. If he is rushing and not, as usual, visualising, it means his mind is not right there on the jumping 100%.

5 - Relationship status

Duplantis is not married but he is currently dating Swedish model and social media influencer Desire Ingander. According to Outkick, they met at a Midsummer party in Sweden in 2020 and have been dating since.

The pair stole hearts at the recently concluded Paris Olympics when Duplantis ran straight into Desire’s arms after setting the world record for the ninth time.

6 - Gold medal collection

He is one of the very few athletes in history to have dominated his event from youth to senior level, having won gold medals at the world youth, world junior, and world senior championships. In addition to world indoor, Olympic, and European championships titles.

Duplantis has an accumulation of 13 career gold medals and the only time he settled for the silver medal at a senior competition was at the 2019 World Championships in Doha.

7 - World Record legacy

He first broke the world record on February 8, 2020, ending Renaud Lavillenie’s almost six-year reign as the pole vault record holder. He has held the record since then, breaking it himself on nine more occasions, as of August 27th.

8 - How rich is Armand Duplantis in 2024?

Duplantis’s net worth in 2024 consists of earnings from brand endorsements of being the ambassador of big companies like Puma and Red Bull.

His estimated worth is around $4 million in 2024. However, this excludes his earnings from bonuses everytime he breaks the world record, which comes with at least $50,000, and also winning gold medals at major championships.

9 - Armand Duplantis nickname

Coincidentally, his nickhname is 'Mondo' in Italian means ‘world’. “The iconic nickname comes from his dad’s best friend, whose ancestors were from Sicily,” said Helena Duplantis in an interview with World Athletics.

“So, he just started to name Armand ‘Mondo Man’ when he was a kid, and now this sounds perfect when he breaks records.”
