Noah Lyles has declared war on all sprinters after his dominant win over track rival Christian Coleman at the US Indoor Championships.

Triple World Champion Noah Lyles upset his track rival Christian Coleman to take the crown at the US Indoor Championships 60m race in a personal best and world-leading 6.43 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Lyles beat Coleman, the 60m world record-holder by 0.01 to demonstrate yet again that he is on fire this season and is leaving no stone unturned.

Lyles had never made a World Athletics Indoor Championships and he is now delighted to have made the cut to the national team owing to his dominant track exploits.

“World domination. We the best in the world. I’m hyped, I’m beyond excited. It’s one thing to run fast but it’s another thing to run fast against the greatest in the world and that’s truly what happened here today. You know, everyone was excited about this matchup and I was excited about this matchup,” Lyles said after the race.

As usual, Coleman got his customary exemplary start but Lyles overtook Coleman at the finish line. The two-time World 200m champion clocked 6.43 seconds, a personal best time, for his first win in four career 60m finals against Coleman.

Meanwhile, Lyles began 2024 with a personal best of 6.51 in the 60m. He said that shaving eight hundredths off that PB this indoor season can translate this summer to lowering his 200m personal best (an American record 19.31 seconds) to 19.10, which would break Usain Bolt’s world record of 19.19.

“Eight years I’ve been trying to work on my start, my acceleration, my first 60. If they can’t beat me here (in the 60m), you can’t beat me anywhere,” Lyles said.

They now both qualify for the indoor championship in Glasgow, Scotland. Coleman won the 2018 World Indoor 60m title and Lyles will be going to his first indoor worlds.

Lyles and Coleman will also be hoping to become the first American man to win an Olympic 100m title since 2004.
