Sober Usain Bolt penned a reminder on his stolen money, two years after major financial setback.

Two years after the shocking news of Olympic legend Usain Bolt losing his $12.8 million to fraudsters, the Jamaican sprint icon is still asking questions and forced to pen a reminder about his stolen money.

In January 2023, Bolt was shocked to discover the huge sum was missing from an account he had with Kingston-based investment firm Stocks and Securities, with only $12,000 left in his account, according to his lawyer.

The Jamaican law enforcement received complaints about alleged fraud at wealth management firm Stocks & Securities Ltd (SSL) on January 11, 2023, which affected accounts belonging to Bolt and others.

Despite the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Fraud Squad and the Financial Investigations Division picking up the investigation process, sadly, all has been fruitless, with regard to the recent post by the eight-time Olympic champion on his social media platforms.

Bolt shared on his social media platforms the exact amount of his stolen money, playing a Jamaican song with the lyrics summarised as 'sacrificing all and getting nothing in return".

How Usain Bolt's money was stolen

In a letter written by Bolt's lawyer, Linton Gordon to SSL, when the news broke out, it said the former sprinter was looking to recover $12.8 million after the balance of his SSL account was “mysteriously” depleted to just over $12,000.

Bolt, who retired from athletics in 2017, has made no withdrawals or transfers from the account, according to Gordon, and would consider legal action if the funds are not recovered.

Also, Bolt’s agent, Ricky Simms, confirmed to CNN that an investigation into alleged fraudulent activity at SSL was underway, but added that he could not confirm how much money was missing from Bolt’s account.

Usain Bolt reportedly asked to be paid his stolen money

In a September 2024 release by caribbeanlife.com, it stated that Bolt and other defrauded investors were set to be repaid most of their invested funds.

According to the publication, the SSL announced plans to repay robbed investors two years after coming within ‘inches’ of collapsing after several employees had raided the accounts of people like Bolt.

The agency, in a release, stated that plans are at an advanced stage to pay out more than $30 million to more than 200 clients who have been waiting patiently for more than a year since the scandal broke in late 2022. The state regulator, the Financial Services Commission (FSC), has ordered the SSL to begin the payout soon.

However, with the post by the eleven-time world champion, it's clear the promises made have not been fulfilled.

Bolt became a household name when he won gold medals at the Beijing 2008, London 2012, and Rio 2016 Olympics. He still holds the 100m and 200m world records of 9.58s and 19.19s, both set at the 2009 world championships in Berlin.
