Last year, Jepchirchir became the first woman in the world to win the Olympic marathon, New York City Marathon and Boston Marathon.

Ethiopia’s legendary marathoner Haile Gebrselassie has labelled Olympic champion as the best marathon runner.

Gebrselassie added that Jepchirchir loves taking up challenges and that places her in a great position to be an outstanding runner.

“If you ask me who the best marathoner is at the moment, I will say Jepchirchir. She likes to be challenged…she started winning from the beginning. She has the mentality of never giving up,” said the four-time world champion.

In 2022, Jepchirchir became the first woman in the world to win the Olympic marathon, Boston Marathon and the New York City Marathon.

On her part, Viola Cheptoo termed Jepchirchir as a very disciplined athlete who has the talent in running.

Former women’s world marathon record holder Mary Keitany also lauded Jepchirchir for being a role model to the young and upcoming athletes. “She is a mentor to the young generation,” Keitany said.

Meanwhile, her uncle, Reverend Joseph Barno described Jepchirchir as a cunning young girl who would run away every time he wanted to discipline her.

“She would run very fast and no one would get a hold of her. That’s when I discovered she could run. I am a happy man because God has answered my prayer for her,” he said.

Her cousin, Noah Barno termed her a resilient girl growing up. He narrated the challenges they faced growing up together and added that he knew Jepchirchir was going far.

“I used to tell her that one day I want to see her competing on TV, and indeed, she made my dream come true. I would always make sure she has the running shoes and from time to time, cater for her transport to races,” he said.
