Omanyala tried taking part in the 400m race in Nairobi earlier this month but will not be doing more one-lap races as he braces for a monumental season.
Ferdinand Omanyala has revealed he will not be taking part in 400m races any more as he gears up to defend his 60m title at the upcoming Indoor Meeting Elite de Miramas in February.
Omanyala secured a fifth-place finish with a time of 49.06 at the Ulinzi Athletics meet earlier this month, but did earn a commendation from his coach, Geoffrey Kimani, who lauded the display as “impressive.”
Just over 10 days since his attempt, Omanyala has now revealed that taking part in the 400 meters was about helping him test his endurance, considering he aims at taking part in the 200 meter race this season.

Omanyala was trying out his luck in the 400m to help build his endurance as he looks for ways of sustaining top speeds in sprints.
“400 meters was more training because it was about testing endurance to see how we are in terms of endurance, so so far so good,” Omanyala said.
The 28-year-old sprinter has however revealed that he will not be taking part in the event again for the foreseeable future.
“I am not doing 400 meters again, unless the coach says so.”
Omanyala has been working hard to better his take-off technique in races and he feels that is the biggest thing that he has learnt under new coach Geoffrey Kimani so far.
