The highly-anticipated clash between two-time World 200m champion Shericka Jackson and reigning World 100m champion Sha’Carri Richardson at the Diamond League Meeting in Suzhou, China this weekend will not be happening.
This comes after Jackson withdrew from the event, making this her fourth withdrawal from her season opener in 2024. Jackson was to compete in the 200m against Richardson but fans will have to wait longer for the clash to happen.

The World 100m silver medallist is yet to cite why she withdrew from the event, a move that has raised eyebrows in the world of athletics. The Jamaican intended to open her season at the JAAA Puma Fuller Anderson Development Meet in Angels, Spanish Town on January 20 but she pulled out of the race.

She was then confirmed for the Queen’s/Grace Jackson Meet on January 27 but she also withdrew from the event before pulling out of the Miramar Invitational.
Following her withdrawal from her first event of the season, Bruce James, president of Jackson’s MVP Track Club emphasised that they wanted to take a cautious approach to Jackson’s season debut this year.
“We want to make sure she was feeling at her best before she starts competing for 2024. We anticipated she should be competing very quickly,” James said.
Meanwhile, following her withdrawal from the Miramar Invitational, Richardson launched her season at the Diamond League Meeting in Xiamen, China, where she finished second in the 200m, behind 19-year-old Torrie Lewis.
