Boniface Mweresa has disclosed where the US, Great Britain, and Jamaican sprinters beat us and given a roadmap on how Kenya can also rise through the ranks.
Kenyan sprinter Boniface Mweresa has opened up on why Kenya needs to work harder when it comes to nurturing sprinting talent in the country.
He explained that sprinters in the US and Great Britain are well taken care of from a young age and they can grow in the craft and that’s why they are able to do well in sprinting events.
The former African Games silver medallist lamented that Kenyans tend to identify what they are good at very late and it takes time to build a great career.

ATHLETICS Why AIU boss Brett Clothier is in Kenya just weeks before Paris Olympics
The Athletics Integrity Unit head Brett Clothier has shared the main reason why he has visited Kenya ahead of the World Cross Country Championships.
“In the USA, once you get into school, you start developing your talent maybe from eight years until you turn professional. But in Kenya, you have to wait and finish school first.
“When in school, there is no guidance on the events to compete in and you find many people changing events from rugby, to football to running and this means your talent is not identified in good time,” Mweresa said.
He added that Athletics Kenya and other federations should be keen to ensure that they have experts to guide young sports talents on the decisions to make.
