Kipyegon missed the record by 0.3 seconds during last year's Diamond League Meeting in Monaco.

Two-time World and Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon is unsure whether she will go for the 1500m record when she lines up for the Diamond League Meeting in Doha, Qatar scheduled for Friday, May 5.

The world record currently stands at 3:50.07 and was set by Ethiopia’s Genzebe Dibaba during the 2015 Diamond League Meeting in Monaco.

Kipyegon tried to shatter the record last year during the same Monaco meet but unfortunately missed it by an agonizing three-tenths of a second. Her personal best time currently stands at 3:50.37.

During the press conference ahead of the meet in Doha, Kipyegon revealed that she will be keen to see how the day turns out for her.

“Oh my God…that’s a really difficult question. If I wake up feeling healthy and the weather is good, we shall just hope for the best. This is the start of the season and I will just see what will be possible. I hope to enjoy the race,” she said.

Over the 1500m race in Doha, Kipyegon will be joined by compatriot Winny Chebet. She expressed her excitement towards kickstarting her track season in the Qatari capital.

“I’m excited to be back in Doha. I have been here many times. I’m looking forward to do better this year as I focus on the World Championships in August,” she said.

Meanwhile, she also revealed that world 1500m bronze medallist Laura Muir is one of the athletes who brings out the best in her while competing and she would not mind competing with her alone.

Kipyegon observed that of all the athletes she has competed with, Muir is one who stands out for her and pushes her to do better.

“It has to be Muir since I have been competing with her several times. She is my friend and whenever we go to race she pushes me to do better,” Kipyegon said.

She also revealed that her family has helped her cope with most of the social media pressure. “I love chilling with my daughter and spending time with my family…that’s how I manage to balance between social media pressure and my mental health,” she said.
