World Relays bronze medallist Wiseman Were is upbeat about displaying a great performance at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix scheduled for Saturday, April 29.
Were, who specializes in the 400m Hurdles and 110m Hurdles, has personal best times of 49.09 and 13.80 respectively. He kickstarted his outdoor season at the second Athletics Kenya meet where he won both of his races.
“I expect to run fast times in Botswana because I am preparing well. I am focusing mostly on my speed and techniques so that I can accomplish my goal,” he said.
He joins Africa 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala and Samwel Imeta who had also confirmed participation at the event.

Imeta has a personal best time of 10.12 over the 100m distance.
Before he heads to Botswana, Were revealed that he will compete in three races in South Africa. He said he will open his international tour at the ASA Grand Prix on Wednesday, April 12.
He will then compete at the second ASA Grand Prix Gemiston scheduled for April 19 before closing his South Africa tour with the third ASA Grand Prix on April 26.
He also dreams of making it to the World Championships and hopefully to the Olympics.
“I want to make Team Kenya for the World Championships in Budapest and also qualify for the Olympics next year. These are some of the biggest stages that an athlete can compete in,” he said.

Were also lamented about the lack of efficient training facilities in the country as compared to other places like the USA.
“The facilities are there but not that improved. Kenya has so many athletes and the federations need to support us. When we are supported, we shall definitely do well,” he said.
