World 10km record holder Agnes Jebet has revealed what cost her a podium place at last weekend's World Cross Country Championships.
Before the star-studded cast descended on the tough course for the 46th edition of the World Cross Country Championships, it was evident that world 10km record holder Agnes Jebet Ngetich would be among the top three finishers in the senior women's race.
However, the Kenyan failed to impress at the event, ending up fifth. Jebet was in great form during the better part of the race since she was doing most of the donkey work.
She controlled the race that comprised all the five Kenyan women, including defending champion Beatrice Chebet, Emmaculate Anyango, Lilian Kasait, and Margaret Chelimo.

ATHLETICS Who is Agnes Ngetich? The Kenyan youngster taking the world of athletics by storm
A look into the bumpy journey of Agnes Ngetich, the youngster who shattered the 10km world record in Valencia to become the first woman to run under 29 minutes over the distance.
However, with a few metres to go, Jebet was dropped and she was nowhere to be seen as the top three athletes crossed the finish line led by Chebet. Questions have been raised on what really happened to the trailblazing youngster who had just set a world record in February.
Jebet went on to explain herself, citing stomach cramps for setting her back during the event. She admitted that the race had attracted very strong athletes and that failure to be in great shape meant she would not be able to do well.
