A perfect gesture from the legendary Usain Bolt to Letsile Tebogo after being named the 2024 World Athletics Track Athlete of the Year.

Following the announcement of Letsile Tebogo as the 2024 Male Track Athlete of the Year at the World Athletics Awards, Jamaican legend Usain Bolt congratulated the Motswana speed king with a perfect gesture.

Tebogo was named the 2024 Male Track Athlete and Overall Athlete of the Year alongside Dutch running queen Sifan Hassan for their history-making exploits in Paris and during the season.

In Paris, the sprint star won the men's 200m final - the first-ever Olympic gold medal in any sport for Botswana, clocking an African Record of 19.46s – a time that moved him to fifth on the world all-time list – and that performance followed his sixth-place finish in the 100m final.

He went on to form part of Botswana’s silver medal-winning men’s 4x400m team. In addition, the youngster dipped under the 20 seconds mark nine times in 2024, with those performances topped by his Olympic title-winning mark, which remained the fastest of the year.

After his groundbreaking announcement, Bolt congratulated him through a Facetime call to Tebogo on the award night.

During his career, Bolt won the Athlete of the Year award a record-breaking six times (2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2016) and the President’s Award in 2017.

Meanwhile, it's Tebogo's first time winning it, making him the joint youngest athlete to win the award at 21.
