World Championships 2023: Ese Brume makes long jump final, on course for history

Ese Brume qualified for her third consecutive long jump final at the World Championships in Budapest.

Ese Brume is Nigeria's first finalist at the ongoing World Championships in Budapest after leaping an impressive distance of 6.72m to make her third consecutive final.

The 27-year-old's mark was good enough to finish fourth in her qualifying round and be among the top 12 finalists - a bold claim that she remains a top favourite to win a medal.

If she can achieve this by getting a medal in Budapest, Brume will become Nigeria's first athlete with three medal's in World Championships history. Her previous were bronze and silver medals at Doha 2019 and Oregon 2022 editions.

The African Record holder will also be hoping to extend her record as the only Nigerian to win two medals in the long jump event at the championship.

Brume will be full of confidence in the final, knowing fully well that she has a chance of extending her iconic records in Budapest.

Meanwhile, Ruth Usoro sadly missed the final as her 6.60m was just 1cm shy of the twelfth spot. The talented jumper will regroup and focus on getting a medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

USA's Tara Davis-Woodhall led the qualifying round with 6.87m, Burkina Faso's Marthe Koala was second with 6.84m, and Serbia's Ivana Vuleta third in 6.82m. They were the only jumpers above the 6.80m mark.
