Olympics 100m champion Noah Lyles has thrown a major challenge to his fiancé Junelle Bromfield after she claimed that she will soon quit sprinting for another discipline.

Tara Davis-Woodhall is the Olympics long jump champion and she is looking to add the world title to it at next year’s World Championships but she could have competition from an unlikely source.

Jamaican sprinter Junelle Bromfield has teased that she could switch from track to jumps this year in what would be a surprising move for the athlete who is still finding her feet in sprints.

Whether it was just a joke or she meant it is something her fans will have to wait and see but Bromfield’s sentiments left her fiancé Noah Lyles in stiches when she suggested that she is considering changing disciplines in the new season.

“I’m going to long jump this year,” Bromfield told Lyles, while the two were doing their runs, with the Olympics 100m champion then bursting into laughter.

“You are acting as if it is impossible,” she responded before Lyles added: “You are in the wrong group for that buddy.”

The Jamaican quarter miler, however, feels it is still possible to switch and train under the current camp. “Coach B [Lance Brauman] coached long jumpers before,” she said, reminding Lyles that his coach worked with field stars before.

Lyles and Bromfield are preparing for the new season under his coach Lance Brauman, who is the founder of PURE Athletics.

Brauman has been working with Lyles since 2017, turning him into a revered sprinter that has won three 200m world titles and one 100m crown as well as an 100m Olympics gold.

He has also added a number of athletes to his stable with Bromfield joining, since she started her relationship with Lyles, although she is yet to set the world alight.

She has a world silver medal and Olympics bronze from Tokyo 2020, both in the 4x400m relay, while at the Paris 2024 Olympics, she failed to make it to the semi-final of the 400m.

Switching to long jump might be a stretch too far now even if Brauman previously worked with jumpers as it would mean the coach has to change his program which appears impossible at the moment.

Bromfield would also find it tough squaring it out with the likes of Davis-Woodhall and world champion Ivana Vuleta.
