Zablon Ekwam is leaving nothing to chance as he seeks to make his debut at the Olympic Games in the 400m.

National 400m champion Zablon Ekwam believes all is possible as he plans to hit the qualifying mark of the Olympic Games coming up later this year in Paris, France.

Ekwam, the 400m guru is confident that when all the conditions are right, he will certainly run faster and make his debut at the Paris 2024 Olympics in an individual event.

During the World Athletics Relays National trials, Ekwam won his first 400m race of the season, clocking an impressive 45.19 to cross the finish line. He missed out on his targets and blamed the poor weather for the setback but promised to bounce back stronger next time.

“The weather has affected me since when I was training with my coach, I expected to run a 44.00 but the weather has been my major undoing.

“When the weather is okay and the sun is out, I know that I will run fast. We are expecting that when the weather is good, great things will happen,” Ekwam said.

In a post-race interview, a confident Ekwam added: “I’m happy…I just feel like I need another race. To the Bahamas we shall be going as a team and I think that if my teammates are working as hard as I am, we are going to stun the world.

“This is my first 400m of the season and I expect that when we go for the relay, I will drop something nice. I want to give my fans a nice show and I’ve never promised and failed to deliver.”
