Mbabazi and Kobugabe truimphed over Algeria's Halla Bouksani and Tanina Violette Mammeri on Sunday.
Uganda's badminton sensational duo of Gladys Mbabazi and Husina Kobugabe delivered Uganda's maiden gold in the Women’s Badminton Doubles at the 2023 African Games in Accra, Ghana.
Mbabazi and Kobugabe truimphed over Algeria's Halla Bouksani and Tanina Violette Mammeri on Sunday.
In a two-set tie, the Ugandan duo narrowly won the first 23-21 and rounded off comfortably with a 21-14 lead in the second.
To make the final bout, Mbabazi and Kobugabe had gotten the better of Egyptians Hany Doha and Nour Ahmed Youssri.
“it's a proud moment for us securing our country’s first-ever gold in Badminton," Uganda's coach William Kabindi said after making history.
"It is a testament to the hard work of our athletes. It is collective effort that has brought these results," Kabindi added.
Meanwhile, Kobugabe secured Uganda's second medal, a silver after a tight final with South Africa’s Johanita Scholtz in Women’s Singles.
That was in addition to Fadilah Shamika's bronze which she scooped from the Women’s Singles.
