New Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant made his first media appearance with the team on Thursday and talked up their championship chances.
In an introductory media appearance with the Phoenix Suns, Kevin Durant made some bold declarations about the team’s chances this season.
Kevin Durant believes the Suns have all the right pieces
Durant insisted the team, especially with stars like Devin Booker, DeAndre Ayton and Veteran guard Chris Paul, had the pieces to be a successful franchise, this season and in the near future.
"I think we've got all the pieces to be successful. We've got guys that experienced what it's like to play in that final round. We got a champion [Jones] already that's overseeing us. Monty is a champion as a coach.
"So we've got guys that been there, and that's half the battle, just knowing what it takes. We've got guys that can do pretty much everything on the floor, so we've got to put it together and I'm looking forward to going to work."
The Suns acquired Durant from the Brooklyn Nets after agreeing to part with of Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder, four unprotected first-round draft picks and a pick swap.
The idea behind the trade was to equip themselves as best as they could to go on a championship run. The arrival of Durant has immediately made Phoenix favourites to win the Western Conference.
Durant remains out for the time being with a right MCL sprain. When asked when he'll make his Suns debut, Durant said "I don't know, but hopefully soon after the [All-Star break]."
Fresh start after failed Brooklyn experiment
The situation in Brooklyn did not work out as planned for Durant after he teamed up with close friend Kyrie Irving and later on James Harden.
Harden demanded to be traded to Philadelphia and Irving dealt with multiple issues on and off the court before eventually demanding a trade to the Dallas Mavericks to team up with Luka Doncic.
The trio only started 16 games together for Brooklyn in what was a colossal disappointment.
Durant will be hoping Phoenix offers him a much better situation to succeed and focus solely on basketball.
