The Los Angeles Lakers traded Russell Westbrook and a first-round pick to the Utah Jazz in a three-team deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Lakers received D'Angelo Russell from the Timberwolves, Malik Beasley, and Jarred Vanderbilt from the Jazz.
Westbrook has since been involved in a buyout with the Jazz and signed for the Clippers on a veteran minimum.
Westbrook on joining the Clippers
The Clippers confirmed the arrival of Westbrook on their official social media platforms.
Speaking at a press conference after his first training, Westbrook stated that he is delighted to join the Clippers after the Lakers traded him.
The 2017 NBA MVP also revealed that his decision to join the Ci=lippers is down their recruitment.
He said, “That’s a huge part, man, for anybody, for any normal human being in any situation in the workplace.
“A lot of teammates and people that want you here, it’s very important to me. I value that a lot.”
Westbrook a California native then pledged to do everything possible to make it work with the Clippers.
He added, “Whatever they need me to do. I’ll do it and do it to the best of my ability.”
Clippers head coach Tyronne Lue acknowledged the qualities that Westbrook brings to the team.

He said, “We want Russ to be Russ and so if he’s doing too much, or not enough, I’ll let him know.
"But we wanted him to be the player that he is, you know, the MVP, the Hall of Famer, everything he brings every single night.”
Westbrook brings added star power to the Clippers with Paul George and Kawhi Leonard as they push for their first championship in franchise history.
He is eligible to make his debut when the Clippers welcome the Sacramento Kings on Friday, February 24, 2023.
