Nigeria's Gabe Vincent contributes big as the Miami Heat take down the New York Knicks in Game 1.

The rivalry between the Miami Heat and New York Knicks was mostly forged in the gritty playoff encounters between those two teams, many of which quickly became classics.

The Heat and Knicks continue to provide unforgettable postseason moments more than 20 years later.

The eighth-seeded Heat overcame a 12-point deficit in the first half to defeat the fifth-seeded Knicks 108-101 in Game 1 of their second-round playoff series on Sunday afternoon at Madison Square Garden despite being the underdog.

With the victory, the Heat took control of home-court advantage and now leads the series 1-0.

Since the current 16-team NBA playoff format was implemented for the 1983–84 season, Miami is attempting to become just the second No. 8 seed to advance to the conference finals.

Jimmy Butler injured

With 5:05 remaining in the fourth quarter, Heat star Jimmy Butler rolled his right ankle while driving into the post and drawing a foul on Knicks guard Josh Hart.

Butler stayed on the floor for a short while, forcing the Heat to take a timeout, and then he shuffled very slowly back to the bench.

Butler was able to finish the game, but it will be important to keep an eye on the issue going into Game 2. He spent the final few minutes of Game 1 hobbling around the floor.

With a team-high 25 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, and two steals in 43 minutes, Butler finished Sunday's victory. He made 8 of 16 field goals and 9 of 11 free throws.

Jalen Brunson, a guard for the Knicks, ended with 25 points, five rebounds, and seven assists, while RJ Barrett, a forward for the Knicks, finished with 26 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists.

Gabe Vincent and Bam Adebayo shine
