Ehab Amin led Ahly with a team-high 22 points, while Nuni Omot and Corey Webster added 16 and 13 points, respectively.
Al Ahly became the second team to qualify for the Basketball Africa League semi-finals after defeating Rwandan side REG in Kigali Saturday night.
The Egyptian giants were in control from start to finish and silenced the partisan home crowd inside the BK Arena with a dominant performance in the day’s second game.
Rwandan President Paul Kagame and First Lady Jeannette Kagame were also in attendance and attracted huge applause upon arrival into the arena.
It did not take long before excitement turned into frustration for the home crowd as Al Ahly got off to a strong start.
The North Africans took the first quarter 23-18 before breaking away in the second to lead by 14 points (46-32) going into the halftime break.
REG attempted a comeback at the start of the second half. Dieudonne Ndizeye pulled up for a two before Cleveland Thomas Jr’s three cut the deficit to nine points.
But if that was supposed to lift REG and create doubts within the Al Ahly camp, it only incited them to a dominant finish down the stretch.
The two sides tied 21-21 in the third quarter, but the Egyptian champions took the fourth 27-24 to win the game by 17 points (94-77).
Ehab Amin led Ahly with a team-high 22 points, while Nuni Omot and Corey Webster added 16 and 13 points, respectively.
Ahly shot 33-for-64 from the field, including a 12-for-31 from three-point range to condemn REG to defeat in front of their home fans.
Adonis Filer scored a game-high 26 points, while Thomas Jr. and Axel Mpoyo added 15 apiece for the home side.
It is the second season in a row that REG are failing to make it past the quarter-final hurdle in Kigali.
Al Ahly will now face Stade Malien in the semi-final on Wednesday.
