After failing to qualify for the FIBA World Cup, D'Tigers are still number 1 in Africa.

Nigeria's senior men's basketball team known as D'Tigers have the number-one-ranked team in Africa.

The International Basketball Federation revealed the latest rankings of the national basketball teams.

The latest rankings come after the final round of qualification games for teh 2023 FIBA World Cup later this year.

D'Tigers fail to qualify for World Cup

Earlier this month, D'Tigers led by Head Coach Ogoh Odaudu led a team full of players from the Nigerian basketball team to take part in the final round of qualification games for the FIBA World Cup.

D'Tigers needed to win all three games to have a chance to qualify for the biggest national basketball tournament in the world.

The team started off well with a shock victory against an unbeaten Ivory Coast side.

They then went on to record a comeback victory against Guines in the second game.

Against the host country Angola in the final qualification game, D'Tigers crumbled as their World Cup hopes were dashed in a blowout loss.

FIBA Rankings

The new FIBA rankings were revealed following the conclusion of the World Cup qualification games.

D'Tigers retained their number one spot on the continent according to the latest rankings.

They were ranked 19th in the world with a total of 461.4 points. D’Tigers participated in the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China and the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Tunisia are ranked second on the continent and 21st in the world with 448.6 points.

Senegal are ranked third in Africa and 37th in the world. Angola are the fourth-best team on the continent and are the 41st on the global level.

Ivory Coast are ranked 42nd in the world and fifth in Africa to complete the top teams on the continent.

The latest ranking will be used to set up the groups for the 2023 FIBA World Cup to be hosted by Indonesia, Japan, and the Philippines.
