Nigeria's national U-16 women's basketball team is looking to seal a place in the African qualifiers and started on a good note alongside their men's counterparts.
It was a good day at the office for the Nigerian National U16 women's basketball team in Ghana at the FIBA Africa Zone 3 qualifiers.
The Nigerian girls proved to be too good for their counterparts from Ghana following a dominant 73-24 win on Friday.
Nigeria dominated the game from start to finish and never looked in danger from the first to the fourth quarter at Eden Heights in Accra, Ghana.
Nigeria breezes past Ghana
The Nigerian girls started superbly and wasted no time in taking the first quarter 18-2 in a clear mismatch.
In the second quarter, the girls extended their lead to 41-9 as the Ghana girls tried to fight back with an improved second quarter performance.
The third quarter also ended in favour of Nigeria with a 52-11 point difference before the girls wrapped it up in the fourth.
With the victory, the Nigerian girls are just a step closer to the African qualifiers as they look to secure a place in the World Cup.
Meanwhile, in the men’s category, it was a closer and keenly contested battle between Nigeria and Cote d’Ivoire.
However, it ended in victory for the Nigeria boys who defeated their Ivorian counterparts 67-38 also at Eden Heights.
