1. Amaniyo Rose Mary: A rising star

The departure of Diana Letaru to Grayson College in the United States left a void in the KIU Rangers' lineup, but Amaniyo Rose Mary is more than ready to fill those shoes.

Rose Mary demonstrated unparalleled prowess and continued her impressive run in the playoffs, especially during the game against the JT Lady Jaguars on Sunday.

Dominating inside the paint and beyond the arc, she scored 26 points and amassed 16 rebounds, proving a pivotal asset to her team.

She's averaging 28 PPG and 25 RPG in three games, establishing the Rangers as favourites to progress to the finals.

2. YMCA's 'ice skating rink' raises safety concerns

Player safety should be paramount, with high stakes at this season's juncture. However, this seemed to be overlooked on Sunday, when heavy rain rendered the surface nearly unplayable, raising concerns among the City Oilers about player safety.

The game proceeded despite the challenging conditions, which had the court resembling an ice skating rink, with players constantly at risk of slipping and injuring themselves.

The compromised surface impacted player performance and the overall quality of the game, with numerous travel violations being called as players struggled to maintain footing.

3. Defending champions teetering on the brink of elimination

The semi-final clash brought forth a charged atmosphere, with the JKL Lady Dolphins seemingly harbouring a sense of vengeance against the UCU Lady Canons after their defeat in last season's finals.

The Dolphins, however, demonstrated their champion's mentality, securing the best regular-season record (20-2) and a sweep in the quarter-finals against the A1 Challenge.

The semi-final series witnessed one team dominating, with last season's runners-up leading 79-66, leaving the defending champions teetering on the brink of elimination.

4. UCU Canons face uphill battle amidst injuries

Injuries have plagued the UCU Canons, with key players like Jimmy Otim, Peter Sifuma, and Rodgers Dauna sidelined, depleting the team's depth and hampering their chances of reaching the finals.

The KIU Rangers capitalized on the Canons' misfortune, securing a 2-0 series lead and inching closer to the finals.

A final quarter score of 21-6 on Sunday solidified a 73-56 victory for the Titans, following an 86-72 win on Friday night.

5. KIU Rangers hold tactical edge over JT Lady Jaguars

The KIU Rangers showcased tactical superiority over the JT Lady Jaguars, concluding Sunday's first semi-final series game with a 68-41 victory.

This triumph marks the third win in the season series for the Rangers. The Kansanga-based side has consistently outplayed their opponents, displaying cohesive offence and airtight defence.

To secure a spot in the finals during their debut season, the Lady Jaguars must devise a strategic counterplan quickly.

The first weekend of the NBL semi-finals was a whirlwind of passion, competition, and unexpected hurdles.

Rising stars, safety concerns, the prospect of elimination, overcoming injuries, and tactical battles all played out, painting a multifaceted picture of the journey these teams are embarking on in their pursuit of the 2023 title.
