Basketball and Gabby Williams

Gabby Williams tried her hand at professional sports and ended up playing collegiate basketball for the University of Connecticut's Connecticut Huskies.

She cleared 1.89 meters but only qualified as an alternate. She was hurt shortly after and sustained two ruptures in her right knee's cruciate ligament.

Her immune system rejected the initial surgery she had, necessitating a second one.

After this incident, she gave up on sports and focused all of her energy on basketball.

The Connecticut Huskies, who she played for and won NCAA titles with in 2015 and 2016, recruited her, and she made four NCAA Final Four appearances.

She finished with 148 wins, 3 defeats, and one triple-double in four seasons.

Gabby Williams as a professional basketball player

The Chicago Sky selected Gabby Williams fourth overall in the 2018 WNBA draft.

In her rookie season, she averaged 7.1 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.6 steals in 10 games. Williams played 22.6 minutes.

She signed with Naples, an Italian team, following the season, however, she was unable to fit in and left to join Girona in 2019.

She traveled to Los Angeles over the winter break following her close friend Kobe Bryant's tragic helicopter crash.

The Chicago Sky announced her departure from the team because she chose to compete for France in the Olympic tournament and the European Basketball Championship.

In 2022, Gabby Williams joined the Seattle Storm in the WNBA, marking her comeback to the league but she also signed with ASVEL Femmes marking her return to France.

Gabby Williams, who attended a training camp with the US national team but did not play any matches, is qualified to play for the French national team because of her dual nationality.

She was called up by France team coach Valérie Garnier in April 2021 to get ready for the European Championship, going back on her first decision to not call her up.

She broke into the French team after taking advantage of Bria Hartley's retirement due to a major knee injury.

She was one of the twelve players chosen to compete in the partially held European Championship in France.

Gabby Williams at the Olympics

She had been thinking about it for a while and was chosen to represent France in her first Olympic Games in Tokyo.

As France defeated Serbia 91-76, she took home the bronze medal providing her best game of the competition, with 17 points, 4 rebounds, and 8 assists.

She led the French team that advanced to the final of the 2024 Olympics and lost by only one point (66–67) to the American team.

In addition to being awarded the competition's best defender, Gabby Williams put up 19 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 assists, and was included in the Olympic tournament's best five along with MVP Aja Wilson.
