Golden State Warriors Season Preview: Steph Curry set for carry-job as the dynasty crumbles

The Warriors saw last season's quest to defend their NBA title halted by the Los Angeles Lakers and with Steph Curry still going strong, you can never write the Dubs off.

The Golden State Warriors led by star man Steph Curry fell short of their title defense aspirations, losing in six games to the size and strength of the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference Semis.

That exit incidentally, was the first time the Warriors have progressed into the playoffs and not made the NBA finals since Steve Kerr took charge in 2014, a seemingly fitting end to a tumultuous season that began with that altercation between Draymond Green & Jordan Poole.

Golden State Warriors ready for the new season?

Poole was the Warriors’ big departure of the summer in a trade that saw both of last year’s rookies Ryan Rollins and Patrick Baldwin Jr, two future picks (2027 2nd round, 2030 1st round) and cash considerations for future hall of fame guard, Chris Paul.

Further additions include Brandin Podzemski (pronounced “puhjemski”), Trayce Jackson-Davies, Dario Saric, Rudy Gay, Cory Joseph, and Usman Garuba, while four-time championship-winning GM Bob Myers left the franchise and was replaced by Mike Dunleavy.

Paul is one of my personal frontrunners for the Sixth man of the year for the coming season. Although past his absolute best, he is still pretty good and could benefit from reduced minutes and escaping the spotlight.

The success of this trade and the development of Jonathan Kuminga (and his ability to contribute consistently throughout the season) will also affect this team’s ceiling in the playoffs because of the lineup combinations that are instantly available.

Why Steph Curry remains the only way out

The truth is, it doesn't really matter what combinations, lineups, or tactical adjustments Kerr makes. What matters is Curry staying healthy and continuing to play like the best point guard in the league.

The Warriors' hopes rest on the shoulders of the 35-year-old but this time, he needs greater help, especially because competition is tougher and a one-man show can't win you titles anymore.

After more than a decade together, with Father Time catching up in his race with the Warriors, it is fair to ask if the dynasty is over or if there's a final act from the Splash Brothers. Time will tell.
