There was a lot of debate about Kerr's decision-making after Tatum was benched for the USA's two matches against the Serbian national team.
Tatum brushed off the idea that he will be more motivated to play against Kerr and the Golden State Warriors during the season as he addressed the media during a September 24 news conference as part of the Celtics media day.
He would not accept that one person would dictate how motivated he is going to be going into the upcoming season.
26-year-old Tatum, who is expected to be motivated by the chance to win two straight and show the world that he is among the league's top five players, will start the upcoming season as an NBA champion.
Even while it's unlikely that Tatum would think back on his time with Team USA this summer, it will be interesting to watch how he plays against Kerr and the Warriors. After all, he does have a point to prove.
After an exceptionally successful year, Tatum joked that his coach, Joe Mazzulla, likely saw an opportunity to inspire him.
