According to Shams Charania, Irving already informed the Nets of his decision to be traded.
He also explained that Irving wants to leave the Nets before the trade deadline closes on Thursday, February 9, 2023.
The statement by Charania said, "Breaking: Brooklyn Nets All-Star Kyrie Irving has requested a trade, league sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium.
"The franchise has been informed that Irving prefers to move on ahead of the Feb. 9 trade deadline – or will leave in free agency in July."
According to sources, Irving's decision to be traded from the Nets comes as a result of negotiations on a contract renewal.
The Nets were unable to reach an agreement with Irving over his continuation as he becomes a free agent in the summer.
Sources close to the situation reveal that the Nets put several stipulations for Irving to fulfill in order to get the full max contract.
Irving the leading vote-getter among guards in the Eastern Conference for the All-Star game in Utah, Salt Lake is not satisfied with the conditions and will prefer to move now.
