The statement by Charania said, "Breaking: Brooklyn Nets All-Star Kyrie Irving has requested a trade, league sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium.
"The franchise has been informed that Irving prefers to move on ahead of the Feb. 9 trade deadline – or will leave in free agency in July."
According to sources, Irving's decision to be traded from the Nets comes as a result of negotiations on a contract renewal.
The Nets were unable to reach an agreement with Irving over his continuation as he becomes a free agent in the summer.
Sources close to the situation reveal that the Nets put several stipulations for Irving to fulfill in order to get the full max contract.
