LeBron James is 36 points from becoming the all-top scorer in NBA History.

James has scored 36 points in 10 games during the 2022/23 season and now only needs that mark to become the top scorer in the history of the toughest basketball league in the world.

The 38-year-old has the chance to break the record when the Los Angeles Lakers take on the Oklahoma City Thunder in their next fixture.

Ahead of the game, James sat down for an interview with ESPN to discuss the significance of breaking the record.

James started off by explaining the importance of breaking the all-time scoring record.

He started off by saying that it was never a goal for him to become the NBA's all-time scorer.

James said, "It's still mind-boggling to myself, you know because I've set our goals throughout my whole career I wanted.

"I want to be a rookie of the year you know, I wanted to be an MVP in this league I wanted to win championships be an All-Star I wanted to lead the league and assist, you know make all defensive team and defensive player of the year.

"I've never said I wanted to lead the league in scoring or for sure never said I wanted to be the all-time leader in scoring.

"That's never been like a dream of mine, to sit here and actually be on the brink of it happening this is it's pretty it's pretty crazy."

James then went on to explain that he has been thinking about the shot to break the record.

He said, "Hopefully I can get a nice layup or my signature Dunk in transition or fade away

"I don't know but a free throw feels like it's cheating."

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar holds the scoring record with 38,387 points.

James stated that being fourth on the all-time NBA assist list is something he holds in high regard compared to the scoring record he never attempted to chase.

He explained that he gets joy from providing the ball to teammates and being up there on the assist list not being a point guard is a massive accomplishment.

James praised the fans for their support as he prepares to feature for the Lakers against the Thunder on Wednesday, February 8, 2023.
